Katie Jollie (Boerne, TX): Raised over $17,000 as a Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Student of the Year

Students have 7 weeks each spring to raise as much money as they can from friends, family & local businesses.  LLS’s SOYT campaign is a great experience for kids!  Asking businesses for donations helps students step outside their comfort zone.  You can see them transform & mature right before your eyes!

Kevin Brewer (Clemmons, NC): Toothbrushes to homeless kids in India

“On a trip to India, I decided to give out toothbrushes to the homeless kids in Delhi.  I had read that there were up to 400,000 street kids in Delhi and a major issue was dental problems.  So my dentist gave me a bunch of toothbrushes and I bought probably a 1000 and walked around Delhi and passed them out, showing kids how to use.  I gather many of them just used them as toys, but ohh well!!”

Darren & Gretchen Eck (New Hill, NC): Monthly biscuits & coffee to an outreach center

Darren & Gretchen Eck (New Hill, NC), along with family & friends, bring 100 biscuits & 100 cups of coffee to Oak City Cares, in Raleigh the first Sunday of every month. Oak City Cares is a hub for connecting individuals and families, who are at risk of, or are experiencing homelessness, to coordinated services that create a path to stable housing and renewed hope.

A couple hours once a month every month, is an easy way to help! And, since the Ecks do this every month, they get to truly “know” the homeless/under-housed community of Raleigh!

Examples of KidsCorps’ projects: Food 4 Kids provides a backpack full of food for the weekend for Olive Chapel’s students who struggle with food-insecurity, annual Special Olympics for Olive Chapel’s students, made Blanket Buddies for SAFEChild through CAPA (Citizens Assisting Police in Apex), adopted a school in Wilmington, NC for hurricane relief, made cards for seniors during holidays & held a fundraiser to honor an Olive Chapel student battling cancer which donated Radio Flyer Red Wagons filled with toys and gifts to Duke Children’s Hospital!
